Board Lengths
By machining our oak decking on site, we are able to manage board quality and ensure that the timber is of suitable moisture content. It also allows us to cut, within reason, to your required length, although this depends on the stock of air-dried bulk oak we have available.
Board Details
Our oak boards can vary in colour from a very light brown through to a medium honey, giving a light, natural appearing deck that will blend sympathetically with most surroundings. Boards are machined from character grade oak, which allows for small to medium knots. It is possible for splits to occur in the ends of lengths. In this instance, we overcut these decking boards to compensate and do not charge for the extra material. All exterior Oak will develop surface splits, shakes and cracks over time - this is a natural occurrence and these can even close back up again with the changing seasons
Oak Balustrade Components
In order for you to finish your oak deck to the highest possible standard, we offer a unique range of decking components, including Oak handrail, baserail, infill, posts and spindles. For more information, visit our Decking Components section.
Fitting Methods
Simply screw through the face of the board into your sub-frame. Always Pilot Drill before fitting screws and drill 2mm oversize holes. We recommend 400mm centre to centre joist spacing. Each hole can be plugged. We do not recommend that the ArchiDeck Hidden Fastening system is used with oak boards.
Fitting Information
Whilst oak decking is far more stable than softwood equivalents, we suggest that a 6mm gap is left between each board. Being a natural product, there will be some expansion and shrinkage according to climate, but this is not likely to be noticed by the human eye. Please note that as hardwood specialists, we do not stock softwood for sub-frames. We recommend that your source this from a standard timber merchants.
Finishing Methods
  • Decking oil: The most common finish for any hardwood deck. This product contains UV filters to delay the silvering process that strong sunlight causes in any hardwood. Decking Oil can applied to oak almost immediately after fitting.
