3 Bay Oak Garages

A 3 bay oak garage provides generous space for two or more vehicles, with room left over for storage or workshop use. Available in gable, hip, or barn-hip roof styles, each design can be customised with features such as log stores, side aisles, or enclosed bays.

Why Choose a 3 Bay Oak Garage?

A 3 bay oak garage is a practical choice for households with multiple vehicles, offering secure covered parking alongside valuable storage or workshop space. Built from structural oak with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, each frame is designed for strength and longevity. The larger footprint makes it a versatile option for rural or suburban properties, providing scope for multipurpose use. Planning permission is required, but our team can assist with drawings and guidance to keep your project on track.

Design Variants & Add-ons

Our 3 bay oak garage range includes 12 standard designs, with both 3 and 3.5 bay layouts available. Choose from gable, hip, or barn-hip roof styles to suit your property. Each frame can be built with add-ons such as half bays, log stores, side aisles, or internal partitions for extra storage or flexibility.

Customisation options include adjusting the footprint, upgrading cladding, adding garage doors or windows, and selecting from a variety of roofing materials. For unique projects, we also offer a full bespoke design service.

What’s Included in Your Kit

Each 3 bay oak garage kit is supplied with oak posts and beams, curved braces, kiln-dried pegs, pre-cut rafters, soleplates, studwork, treated featheredge cladding, granite staddle stones, and all required fixings.

Joints are pre-numbered, and every frame is dry-fitted in our workshop for accuracy.

Roofing can be finished with cedar or oak shingles, tiles, or slates, and optional joinery such as side doors, windows, and garage doors can be added to your order.

Build & Delivery

Lead times for 3 bay oak garages are typically around 6 weeks. Delivery is available across mainland England and Wales, with charges calculated by size, weight, and address. Each frame is pre-assembled in our workshop and delivered ready for a straightforward build.

You can self-build, use a local contractor, or ask us to recommend trusted fitters.

Planning & Building Regulations

Planning permission is required for all 3 bay oak garages, as their footprint typically exceeds permitted development allowances. Building regulations also apply if the internal area is over 30m², within 1m of a boundary and larger than 15m², or if the building includes habitable space. Our team can provide planning drawings and guidance to support your application, but final approval always rests with your local council.

General rules for outbuildings state that structures must be single-storey, under 4m in height with a pitched roof, and not cover more than half the land around the original house. Restrictions are tighter for listed properties, conservation areas, and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where permission is almost always required.

If you are unsure, we recommend speaking directly to your local planning office before starting your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add storage to a 3 bay garage?

Yes. Many designs incorporate log stores, side aisles, or half bays for extra capacity. Internal partitions can also create secure storage areas or workshops. These options can be added to standard designs or developed through a bespoke specification.

Can I self-build or do you offer fitting?

Our kits are designed for straightforward assembly, with pre-cut rafters, numbered joints, and full instructions included. Many customers self-build or work with local contractors. If preferred, we can recommend experienced installers to complete the build.

Can you design bespoke oak garages?

Yes. Beyond our 12 standard 3 and 3.5 bay designs, we offer a bespoke service. Whether you want to alter the footprint, change the roof profile, or create a fully custom design, our team can build to your specification.

Do I need planning permission for a 3 bay oak garage?

Yes. Unlike smaller structures, a 3 bay garage exceeds permitted development limits, so planning permission is required. We can provide planning drawings and guidance, but you should always confirm requirements with your local authority before proceeding.

How much does a 3 bay oak garage cost?

Prices depend on size, roof style, and additional features. Optional upgrades such as log stores, joinery, or bespoke adjustments will also affect the final cost. All frames are made to order.

What is the typical size of a triple bay garage?

Sizes vary by design, but footprints typically range from 8.3m x 5.3m up to 10.9m x 5.3m. Ridge heights are kept under 4m, while layouts can include side aisles, log stores, or half bays for added space.
