The Thinker originally sculptured by Auguste Rodin. It depicts a nude muscular male figure sitting on a rock with his chin resting on his right hand as if deep in thought. The figure is contemplating poetically on philosophy.
The Thinker portrays a heroic-sized naked masculine figure seated on a rock, commonly used to symbolize philosophy because of its profound pondering and contemplation attitude. The original was a 28-inch high bronze piece created by Rodin in 1881 as part of his larger work The Gates of Hell, inspired by Dante's Inferno. The sculpture portraying Dante stood in front of the gates and represented his character of poetry and art. As with all cast iron products, this statue will continue to gently develop its own unique patina. Depending on positioning and environment, this can include mossing and general weathering. In order to begin this process, we store these statues outside. As rust forms its own seal, decades of service are ensured. Whilst a weathered look is generally preferred, a uniform finish can be achieved by priming and spraying or painting as required.
